Import from Germany, however, increased by no less than 29% to 172,000 m³. This means that the market share for German sawmills increased from 53% to 68%. “This is an impressive development,” says Jenny Wessung, CEO at Woodstat AB. “If we look at the figures in detail, we can see that leading exporters like U.S., Canada, Russia and Austria delivered clearly lower volumes this year.” The construction industry (houses, infrastructure etc) will expand further in the next coming years and the demand of softwood lumber will increase.
