European architecture and new technology to increase wood use,Technically skilled experts from Europe dominate the list of speakers at the European Wood Days in Asia this autumn. ,,The Wood Day will be held on Tuesday 25 October in Tokyo and on Thursday 27 October in Beijing,,The first European Wood Day was organised in Japan last year and, just like last year’s event, this year’s Wood Day is being put on in cooperation with the University of Tokyo. Wood, when properly used in construction applications and building systems, can help to solve structural problems, shortages of building materials, the energy crisis, the need for sustainable material solutions, and meet commercial needs, quality in building and housing, cost efficiency, within the Chinese construction sector. ,,-Building systems and methods in China are unsustainable in the long-term, says Jan Söderlind.

,Dry Building is the theme for the Wood Day in Japan. Decreased durability of buildings and sick buildings are caused by moisture combined with technical deficiencies. There are, however, techniques that make it possible to avoid these problems, such as methods for protecting building material and building sites from moisture. Something that is obvious for Western Europeans but which is not standard throughout Japan is always using artificially dried wood. It is also not standard to including features in the building design that lead water away from seals and seams. ,,
